I’ve seen a couple posts lately about the weather cooling off (I must say that as a 40+ woman who’s always hot, I enjoy my boot/sweatshirt season😜). Welp, last night, I stepped out of the nail salon, aaaaaand, it was cold. But then I thought to myself…🤔

….whether we like it or not, fall is approaching. 🍂 It’s time to release what no longer serves us and step into a new identity—beyond mommyhood, beyond fear, beyond anything holding you back. You’re unstoppable & deserve so much more. 💖

My heartbeats headed back to school today in the #summertime.😭 I’m not okay (I wanted a family vacation; we ran out of time), but I’m blessed that my babies are healthy, being educated, and loving life to the fullest.

Lord, bless their school, including all the students, staff, teachers, bus drivers and anyone else who engage with our babies. Keep them safe and give them the confidence to succeed in everything they do. In Jesus’ name.🙏🏾

Hearing about Malcolm Jamal Warner yesterday crushed me/made me think about life. It’s precious. Take the time to be with those you love and… fulfill His purpose on your life. Malcolm Jamal Warner taught us just that - He was private about His family life and cherished those close to him all while continuing to cultivate His God-given gift on stage and on screen.

I woke up this morning feeling a bit heavy and confused only to remember what transpired yesterday - the news about our TV brother-cousin. My prayers go out to all of us who feel that a piece of us is gone, especially His family and close friends.

We’re proud of you #MalcolmJamalWarner! We appreciate how much you encouraged us to keep pushing.

May we all live with that same quiet strength—loving well, creating boldly, and walking fully in the purpose God has for us.

God’s power is already at work within you—and your calling is NOT random. It’s divine. 👑

So what’s stopping you? A couple weeks ago, a friend said to me: “If utilizing your gift is obedience to God… then what does it mean when you’re not using it?” #disobedience😭 (insert my own eye roll)

Ma’am, obedience is NOT optional when purpose is on the line.

Your gift was NEVER about you—it was ALWAYS about what God wanted to do through you.

✨ Drop a 🙋🏾‍♀️ if you’re ready to stop playing small and walk boldly in what God already gave you - it’s your purpose! You’re not alone - I’m speaking to myself too. Let’s talk about it. I’ll wait. (But God has been waiting long enough.)

Last week, Ava had the unique opportunity to participate in Alabama State University’s Summer Dance Intensive from Sunday to Saturday alongside two of her sidekicks, Leslie and Tania. Yes, she was there, in Alabama, parent free with dance students from across the nation. She experienced dorm life, college food, lots of walking, and danced for about 14 hours a day. Yes, they had to be downstairs at 6:45am, eat breakfast, and then attend their stretch/conditioning class, which started around 7:30am. They returned to their dorm rooms around 9:30-10pm each night. You talk about INTENSE!!!🤯

Then on Saturday, they had an amazing performance - you would have thought it took them months to practice because they were on point. No pun intended.🩰

Thank you to @iibadadanceco for continuing to push Ava to be an amazing dancer. Because of her audition in Pittsburgh earlier this year, she was afforded this opportunity to be taught by some of the best in the nation (alongside college aged students too).

Also, thank you to my fellow dance mom Katrina for getting the girls to Alabama safely and to my brother in love, Nate, for helping me pickup Ava. Five hours round trip and a lovely introduction to Buccee’s (I had no idea).😋🔥

Ava, the sky is the limit! So proud of you Babygirl!!! What’s next? Backup for Beyoncé?😜🙏🏾

I met with a woman earlier today. She shared that her daughter also attended DePauw University but I wouldn’t know her because she was much older than me.

Of course I asked what year her daughter graduated (I used to oversee alumni relations. Maybe just maybe I’d know her.)

Her response: 2009

Me: I graduated in 2003.

Her: 🤯😲 No way!!! You look so much younger.

Me: Well thank you!

I guess she couldn’t see my gray hair through the screen! Lol!🤷🏾‍♀️🤣

But I sure am grateful for good genes (have you seen my parents?), giggles (I can be a bit goofy), and God’s grace (enough said).🙌🏾🩷

This past weekend we had the honor of celebrating our matriarch’s 90th birthday!!!🎉🎈🎂🥳

This incredible woman has poured so much into our little family—especially during one of the most challenging seasons of our lives while raising our babies in Chicago. We are forever grateful for your love, generosity, and constant prayers.

Love you to pieces, Auntie Barbara!!!😘

This past weekend we had the honor of celebrating our matriarch’s 90th birthday!!!🎉🎈🎂🥳

This incredible woman has poured so much into our little family—especially during one of the most challenging seasons of our lives while raising our babies in Chicago. We are forever grateful for your love, generosity, and constant prayers.

Exactly two weeks ago, Ava and RJ boarded a plane… by themselves 😭 … to visit their grandparents - my mommy and daddy.

I was ok - smiles, hugs, & Shake Shack breakfast (for them) - until they stepped onto the jetway. Then came the tears & the pit in my stomach. I texted them to say, “Mommy has a few tears.”

Ava, replied:
“Mommy, you’ve been here before. You’re fine.”

She was right (at least a little bit)…. But they’re still my babies!!!!

The truth? I PRAYED the entire time until they landed (and checked the flight’s whereabouts every few minutes when it was almost time to land😬).

Because even when we know it’s time to release… letting go is hard. Truth be told, I’m not entirely ready. Y’all pray for me!

But here’s what I’m learning (again):
Letting go is not weakness. It’s growth.

It’s how we create space for what’s next—whether that’s trusting our kids, releasing old fears, or stepping into our own purpose.

Today, literally within the last hour, I read three similar posts from three different women announcing that they are stepping down as CEO.

Not because they failed.

And what struck me most?

They had been laying the foundation for succession the entire time.

They weren’t just growing something for themselves—they were creating a legacy that could outlive them.

That kind of foresight and leadership? It’s rare.
And it’s a reminder that stepping down can be the final, most powerful act of visionary leadership.

Stepping back isn’t giving up.
It’s a declaration: “I’m ready for what’s next—and I’ve set this up to thrive without me.” (And I’m going to enjoy my summer reclaiming my peace.)
